The Challenge

Early 2021, I got challenged by the Volvo Cars' recruiting team, to "Imagine And Specify The Charging/Electrified Experience In 2030".

I had been driving a Tesla Model 3 for about 6 months. When I got this challenge, I already had quite a lot ideas about the pros and cons of an electric car, and my own picture of how the future of cars would be.

But in case that my vision would be too personal preference. I did some Google searches to better understand what others are thinking about the electric car experience.

The search did give me some new thoughts, with that I started to form up some initial ideas.

Technical Researching

I imagined the wireless charging would be one of the major charging method in the future. Although this was more of a brainstorming, I still wanted to may sure that this was something realistic. I went ahead with more Google searching and apparently some companies were already making progresses of it.

It is probably still a long way to go, and probably not going 100% replace the cable charging, but definitely something worth exploring.

Structuring the Story

The most challenging part is always about how to structure the ideas in a proper way.
I started to put things in order and see how they could tell a story.

Visualization

It took me a while to find the proper typefaces...

Then I found a nice sci-fi video which was perfect to be used as the hero video. I also generated a color palette based on the video.

The rest was just to complete the story. Read the words alone could be boring, I was writing and making some necessary imagery at the same time.

There were some real UI design as well. They weren't done from scratch though, I took the shortcut by using some UI kits and add the necessary elements to narrate the story.

The Ending

I spent almost a whole day on this. The ideas are absolutely not perfect yet, but thought it would be worth to record the process of making them.
